The Group of Socio-cultural Studies of Design in Venezuela (GISODIV) propounds an intellectual space to assess and promote the formulation of points of view about:
1. The appreciation of material culture nowadays.
2. The patterns of thought used to assess good design in Venezuela.
3. The innovative power of design.
4. The role of socio-cultural issues in the understanding and production of design.
To this aim, the investigations of GISODIV attempts to answer questions such as:
• What is the value assigned to design by Venezuelan people as a means to define their physical surroundings?
• What has been the impact of foreign designs in the Venezuelan society?
• Is there any design which is ‘Venezuelan’ in character?
• What socio-cultural issues of Venezuelan society still need to be approached through design?
• How can design help to solve needs of sectors of the Venezuelan population traditionally underestimated (disable, economically deprived, etc.)?
• What design issues should be taken into account to address the needs of underestimated sectors of the Venezuelan population?
